I'm going to be very honest and frrwaod about this letter so excuse me if I offend, it's not my intention. Let me start by saying the vision of Pontiac brought forth in this letter terrifies me because it's all about greening up a performance brand the way I would not like to see. I understand that being a burner (taken from the movie Firebird 2010) is not looked upon kindly anymore and that we need to find a way to sell the idea of Pontiac to the company holding the marque, but I believe this is wrong. I agree that a G6 GTP 6 spd should have got better mileage than my 98 GT Grand am 4 popper 5 spd on the highway and that Pontiac's should sip gas till you need or want it, but to take Pontiac a brand that has always been the throw it in their face brand and make it the here have a hug brand, no thanks keep it dead. There has to be a better way to give them greener without selling Pontiac's soul to the government. While I have no love of Powder blue Prius (Jeff Dunham) I understand the need for them and the Volt, I just think that if GM (Chevy) can still make the pushrod V8 perform up to par with Overhead Cam engines from around the world, then they can make a GTO that will do 50mpg and still give you 400bhp on demand. I would also like to see the marriage between Holden and Pontiac again. I think it delivered some good cars to the USA, but I feel the biggest issue is that GM had built itself out of contention with foreign brands by having too high a price on everything. I wanted a new Poncho for years but when I looked at the T/A in 1992 it was around $20k then by 2002 it was almost $40k, 10 years and it doubles in cost and is priced to high for those who want it most, duh. They need to build cars that appeal to every generation and can be bought by them. You need a car the 16-21 crowd wants and compares to what they actually are buying, it has to look great, cost little and drives the way they want it (Civic or Scion) and has options support from aftermarket (buy it base build it up). Next you need to have something the 22-30 group wants and thinks doesn't make them look like their grandpa, yet again can cost little and be optioned out. I got tired of not being able to buy a car without leather and with a manual. I should have been able to buy a base Firebird with WS-6 suspension and a Ram Air V8, 6 Speed (The Mongoose test bird), without leather, radio, chrome wheels, and even AC for half what the full on bird was. Then the 31-AARP group should have a car like the G8(without the G-whizz name) that they could have in base and option up the way they want with a real name like Bonneville. I've stated before that I think the best path to success would be to start with platforms that exist already and build Pontiac's on them. Camaro to a Trans Am, Holden Commodore to the Bonneville. Then bring back the Solstice with a different more Pontiac name like Phoenix and build a platform similar in concept to the Civic that can be optioned like the Scions. I'm sorry but to bring Pontiac back by making it electric green I feel will not be successful, because it will further alienate the people who really loved it for what it was and would like to see it back. Also another point I'd like to make is that people aren't buying Hybrids and electrics the way they want you to believe. It's still not staggering numbers to justify. In short I feel the only true path would be to bring it back as a brand that appeals to all for it's styling, performance, innovations, and most of all PRICE and Flexibility in options! You must beat Honda, Toyota, Mazda at their game but not by competing with all the models that each brand makes, certainly not by joining them and rebadging Matrix into Vibes! I think Pontiac needs to have a car to bring you in when you are young to build confidence and loyalty, a car to get you hot chicks and runs like scalded dog, a car to get you to middle age, a car for your middle age crisis, and a car for your retirement years. All of which should be responsible to the environment so my Kids don't have to dress their kids in fallout suits to get to school while riding in the Jetson's car of tomorrow. I just feel that I can't support this letter, sorry. I want to stress that I appreciate the hard work that is going on behind the seen by Christopher and all involved. I applaud you for your thoughts and visions but I do not agree with them.
